An employee may wish to change jobs for job opportunities, career advancement and promotions. Sometimes, this is not mutually satisfactory and the employee does NOT want to negotiate. In these cases, a good way to negotiate with the new employer is to explain your strengths and weaknesses to your new boss. They might be willing to help you find a better position and may even be willing to give you a promotion if you show them your strengths and skills.

Reclassification is the process by which an employee changes positions within the same department or organization, often resulting in a different title and job description. Generally, it means that a person's duties have been re-defined, but they retain the same job title. In order to increase responsibilities, upward reclassification is considered an increase. While downward reclassification is considered a decrease in duties. A move to the same job title and department within another organization is called lateral.


Moving up the career ladder via lateral moves is a great way. You'll still have to report to your previous boss but you'll likely have a new line of responsibility and a higher pay scale in the new position. Lateral moves give you new skills and opportunities to prove yourself and may even help you overcome boredom. You may find the right job if the company offers you a different position with the same title pay and salary.

Employees may not agree with the change

If you are concerned about your contract's flexibility, you may have a right to refuse changes. You can either protest verbally or by writing and refuse to accept any changes. Make sure you make it clear that the changes are temporary and give the employer a reasonable explanation for their decision. Failure to act could lead to you being deemed to be agreeing to these terms and conditions. This is why you need to carefully read the terms and conditions of your employment contract before you accept any changes.
