It is not difficult to see that work history can be very different over the course a person’s life. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average number of people who changed jobs between the ages of 18-24 and 35 was 5.7. The figure drops to two to four between the ages of 25 to 34. This figure drops to 2.9 among people aged 35-44 and to 1.9 between 45-60 and 52. However, this trend doesn’t always translate into career changes as there may be some changes.

Gen Z workers are known for their willingness to switch careers if it is in their best interests. According to Gen Zers, 44% would rather be unemployed than work in a position they don’t enjoy. These traits can be beneficial for both employers and Gen Z employees.

Recent research found that almost 80 percent of Gen Z professionals would be open to a career change in any industry or job function. Half of these Gen Z professionals said they would consider moving to a different location for their new job. Twenty percent of Gen Z workers agreed that more variety in their job would be appealing.

Some people will stay with the same job for their entire lives, while others may switch jobs to find the right one. There are many reasons why someone might change their career. Here are three: millennials (and baby boomers), and the general public. Many people don't wish to remain in the same place for their entire lives.


Many people switch careers to find work that is more satisfying and fulfilling. Many people are looking for work opportunities in the health, education, or environmental fields. Gen Xers are more likely to set clear goals and expectations when working. This keeps them motivated. For example, they may ask multiple question to collect project requirements. Many baby boomers are looking for a new job. These are highly educated and independent people. Many of them grew up in a time of reform and challenged the status quo. They don’t fear conflict and will challenge all accepted practices. They are committed to their careers and they are goal-oriented.

Baby boomers have a wide variety of career experiences. They know what their passions are and what kinda of contributions they would like to make. The best way to broaden your horizons, learn new skills, and see the world from a different perspective is to change careers. Additionally, career change gives them time to explore different industries, different locations and different job functions.
